Monster Hunter Wilds GPU Requirements May Lower as Capcom Tries to Optimize Game
Capcom is actively enhancing Monster Hunter Wilds' performance and aiming to reduce PC GPU requirements before the game's official launch. This article delves into Capcom's optimization strategy.
Capcom Optimizes Monster Hunter Wilds for Launch
Reducing GPU Demands on PC
As announced on the game's German Twitter (X) account on January 19, 2025, Capcom is focused on improving Monster Hunter Wilds' performance.
A video showcasing a smoother gameplay experience, featuring a hunter battling Quematrice, was shared. The footage highlights the updated Prioritize Framerate mode for PS5, boosting fps at the expense of some graphical detail.
The announcement also confirmed similar optimization efforts for the PC version, with a key focus on lowering GPU requirements. The Twitter (X) post stated, "Performance will be similarly improved, and we are investigating the possibility of reducing the recommended GPU requirements."
Currently, the minimum GPU requirements are an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Super or AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT. Successful optimization could make the game playable on lower-end hardware, expanding its accessibility.
Furthermore, Capcom plans to release a free benchmarking tool to help players determine optimal settings and assess system compatibility. This should alleviate concerns about needing costly PC upgrades. For more details on Monster Hunter Wilds, refer to our related article.
Addressing Beta Test Feedback
The initial Monster Hunter Wilds open beta (October-November 2024) revealed performance issues, with Steam players citing low-poly models resulting in subpar visuals.
Besides the pixelated character models, frame rate drops and other performance problems were reported, particularly concerning given high-end PC configurations. While some players achieved performance improvements, it often came at the cost of visual quality.
Capcom acknowledged these issues on November 1, 2024, stating, "The afterimage noise issue in certain environments with Frame Generation enabled will be resolved in the full game, which is already in a significantly improved state compared to the beta."
This improved version will likely be showcased in Open Beta Test 2 (February 7-10 and 14-17, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam), featuring Gypceros and a new monster. However, the inclusion of the recent performance updates in this beta remains unconfirmed.
