Fans of *Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2* are thrilled following a significant announcement from the game's developer, Saber Interactive. The company has opened up the doors to its internal editor, dubbed the Integration Studio, for public use by modders. This move has sparked enthusiasm and hope that *Space Marine 2* could enjoy a long-lasting life akin to that of *Skyrim*, fueled by user-generated content.

Game director Dmitry Grigorenko shared the news on the Space Marine 2 modding Discord, describing it as the "biggest milestone yet" in supporting the modding community. The Integration Studio, previously used internally for all gameplay development, allows modders to dive into various aspects of the game. From crafting level scenarios and game modes to tweaking AI behavior, abilities, melee combos, and user interfaces, the possibilities for customization are vast.

Grigorenko reiterated the team's commitment to supporting the modding scene, expressing excitement about the community's potential to create new cinematic campaigns, innovative game modes, and unexpected experiences. To kick things off, he playfully shared concept art for a "Fishing With Daddy Calgar" mini-game, showcasing the creative potential now accessible to modders.

To understand the modding community's plans, I spoke with Tom, known as Warhammer Workshop, who recently released the *Astartes Overhaul* mod for *Space Marine 2*. Tom, who enabled 12-player co-op in the game, now has access to scripting tools that control mission dynamics and game components such as weapons and abilities. He suggested the possibility of creating a roguelite mode where players start with a combat knife and face escalating challenges with chances to earn better weapons and resources.

While a new cinematic campaign, such as a Chaos campaign, is feasible, Tom noted that creating cutscenes remains challenging without access to animation tools. However, he is currently working on introducing new factions like the Tau and Necrons, leveraging existing character rigs. Meanwhile, the community is eagerly working on the "Fishing With Daddy Calgar" mini-game challenge posed by Grigorenko.

The reaction from *Space Marine 2* fans has been overwhelmingly positive. Despite the game's success and status as one of the best-selling Warhammer video games, its official content is limited to three factions: Space Marines, Chaos, and the Tyrannids. With the release of the Integration Studio, fans can now expand the game's universe, fulfilling hopes for additional factions like the Necrons, which were teased in the campaign.

Redditor Mortwight praised the move, saying, "This is how you keep a game alive for years like Skyrim." This development is particularly noteworthy given Saber Interactive and publisher Focus Entertainment's announcement of *Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 3*. While some fans worry about the future of *Space Marine 2* DLC, both companies have reassured fans that they are not abandoning the game. With the modding community now equipped with powerful tools, *Space Marine 2* is poised for a vibrant future.
