MindsEye Dev Issues Urgent Performance Fix in Response to Troubled Launch

Jun 15,25

MindsEye has rolled out the first in a planned series of emergency hotfixes aimed at improving game performance following what can only be described as a troubled launch. The patch, labeled "Hotfix #1," is now available for PC (5.7GB) and PS5 (2GB), with Xbox Series X|S support (4GB) set to follow shortly.

In a recent Discord post, Build A Rocket Boy acknowledged the widespread frustration among players and expressed deep disappointment over the issues encountered since release. The developer confirmed that performance optimization remains its top priority and emphasized that this hotfix is just the beginning of a broader commitment to address bugs, crashes, and gameplay inconsistencies.

The update includes a range of improvements across all platforms, including:

  • CPU and GPU performance optimizations
  • Memory usage enhancements
  • Reduced difficulty in the CPR mini-game
  • A new setting to disable or adjust Depth of Field
  • Fixed missing controls in MineHunter and Run Dungeon mini-games

For PC users specifically, the patch introduces pop-up notifications for systems running without Hardware Accelerated GPU Scheduling and those using CPUs prone to instability or crashes. Additionally, the hotfix resolves a critical memory leak issue that was responsible for many player-reported crashes.

Looking ahead, Build A Rocket Boy has committed to delivering further updates throughout June, including:

  • Ongoing performance and stability improvements
  • A rebalanced “hard” difficulty setting
  • Animation fixes
  • Enhancements to AI behavior

Despite these efforts, MindsEye’s reception has been rocky. On Steam, the game peaked at 3,302 concurrent players at launch but quickly dropped to a 24-hour high of just 786. As of this writing, only 435 players remain active on the platform, and user reviews stand at a “mixed” rating. Whether Build A Rocket Boy—founded by former Rockstar North president Leslie Benzies—can recover from this shaky start remains to be seen.

The team has pledged to maintain open communication with the community and act swiftly on player feedback. For now, Hotfix #1 represents the first step in what promises to be a long road to redemption.
