Recent updates reveal exciting details about the game's development, including its unique gameplay features and the promise of an engaging experience for players. Let's explore what's in store for Phantom Blade Zero.

Phantom Blade Zero: Not Just Another Soulslike

Phantom Blade Zero Playtime Estimated to be 20-30 Hours with Adjustable Difficulty

Phantom Blade Zero is breaking away from the Soulslike label with its introduction of four difficulty options: easy, ordinary, difficult, and extremely difficult. This move sets it apart from the notoriously challenging Soulslike genre, which typically doesn't offer adjustable difficulty. Game Director Soulframe has clarified via a tweet following the Summer Game Fest 2024 that Phantom Blade Zero is not aiming to be another Soulslike. Instead, the focus is on delivering "combo-driven, heart-pumping combat that is hectic, rewarding, and exhilarating."

While the game does draw inspiration from Soulslike titles with its multi-layered maps and hidden areas, Soulframe emphasizes that the similarities end there. He describes Phantom Blade Zero as "Ninja Gaiden Combat on a Souls Game Map," blending high-energy hack-and-slash action with expansive world exploration.

Rich Gameplay Features Await

Phantom Blade Zero promises a diverse and engaging gameplay experience. Players can choose from over 30 primary weapons and 20 secondary weapons, each offering unique combat styles and effects. The main story is expected to provide 20-30 hours of playtime, with an additional 20-30 hours of side content to explore.

Boss fights in Phantom Blade Zero are designed to be challenging yet fair, featuring at least two phases. If players fail during the second phase, they can restart from there, skipping the first phase. A new game mode, "Li Wulin," allows players to rematch previously defeated bosses, unlocking new hidden bosses to conquer.

Additionally, a mechanic that influences the game's ending has been teased, though details on how it affects the overall playthrough and the number of alternate endings remain under wraps.

Year of the Snake Gameplay Trailer

The "Year of the Snake Gameplay Trailer" showcases the protagonist, Soul, battling the "Chief Disciple of The Seven Stars." The trailer also highlights various weapons Soul can use, including the "Weapon No.13 Soft Snake Sword" and "Weapon No.27 White Serpent and Crimson Viper." This trailer indicates that a release date for Phantom Blade Zero will be announced in 2025.

To celebrate the Lunar New Year, Phantom Blade Zero's official Twitter (X) page released a video where Soulframe hinted at more exciting announcements and reveals planned for later in the year, promising fans something they've never seen before.

Phantom Blade Zero is currently in development for PlayStation 5 and is also planned for release on PC. While no official release date has been announced, the game is shaping up to be a thrilling addition to the action-adventure genre.
