Life is Strange Feedback Sought After Disappointing Sales

Following the less-than-stellar reception of Life is Strange: Double Exposure, Square Enix is actively seeking player feedback through a detailed survey. This initiative aims to understand the game's shortcomings and inform the development of future Life is Strange titles.

The survey, a 15-minute questionnaire, delves into various aspects of Double Exposure, including narrative, gameplay, technical performance, and overall value. It even directly asks players whether they felt the purchase was worthwhile and how their experience impacts their anticipation for future installments.

Life is Strange: Double Exposure, released in October 2024, featured the return of fan-favorite Max Caulfield. Despite this, the game received mixed reviews, scoring a 73 on Metacritic (critic score) and a 4.2 (user score) on the PS5 version. This lukewarm reception, coupled with layoffs at developer Deck Nine Studios in December 2024, has prompted Square Enix's proactive response.

The publisher clearly anticipated a more positive reaction to Double Exposure, particularly considering the success of its predecessor, Life is Strange: True Colors, which was lauded for its compelling narrative and emotional resonance. Alex Chen, the protagonist of True Colors, resonated with players in a way that Double Exposure's characters failed to achieve.

While Double Exposure hinted at potential storylines for future games, the feedback collected by Square Enix will significantly shape the direction of the franchise. The extent to which future games will incorporate fan suggestions remains to be seen, but the survey's results will undoubtedly play a crucial role in the series' future.
