Lies of P DLC Boss Pledges Fairer Challenge

Nov 17,25

Lies of P developer Neowiz unveiled its DLC Overture during Summer Game Fest, showcasing new locations, enemies, bosses, characters, weapons, and the highly debated inclusion of two easier difficulty settings. These options are now being made even more accessible as the team prepares for a "difficulty reduction."

As a "Soulslike" game, Lies of P presents a formidable challenge, which can be particularly daunting for newcomers drawn to its grim narrative and atmosphere. Director Jiwon Choi previously stated that the team believed Soulslike games should not include difficulty options and initially launched without them. However, the studio has since reconsidered, explaining: “We wanted to ensure a broader audience could enjoy the game."

For players tackling the Overture DLC on its "intended" difficulty, Legendary Stalker, the experience appears more demanding than ever. The volume of discussion—both supporting and criticizing the DLC's increased challenge—prompted the Lies of P subreddit to consolidate all feedback into a "megathread" to prevent the community from being inundated with complaints.

This sentiment is reflected in Steam reviews, with one user commenting: "I’m at level 300 and shouldn’t be defeated in two hits by standard enemies. The enemy placements, which force you to confront multiple foes simultaneously, exacerbate the issue. This wouldn’t feel so unbalanced if even a single enemy couldn’t deplete half your health with one attack."

Now, according to a recent Lies of P Director's Letter, it seems the difficulty will undergo further adjustments.

"We're carefully evaluating all [player feedback] and are already determining when to implement some of your suggestions," Choi stated, as reported by Eurogamer. "Among the various comments, we are placing the highest priority on the combat experience.

"We've identified certain aspects that didn’t align with our original vision. As a result, we are exploring several adjustments, including a reduction in difficulty. However, combat is one of the core pillars of Lies of P, so any modifications demand meticulous work and extensive testing." This "fundamental" nature of combat may explain why Neowiz has not yet provided a timeline for the update.

We rated Lies of P highly, giving it an 8/10, and Overture itself also earned an 8/10. In our review, we noted: "Even though it follows familiar patterns, Lies of P: Overture is an outstanding expansion that significantly enriches an already exceptional game."
