Roblox player numbers have reached a new all-time high, fueled by a weekend event where the platform’s two most popular games, Grow a Garden and Steal a Brainrot, competed in an “admin war” to attract the largest player base.

According to player data tracked by Fortnite.gg, Roblox peaked at an astonishing 47 million players last Saturday, August 23, as creators of Grow a Garden and the newer title Steal a Brainrot launched a coordinated campaign to draw players to their respective games.

This event set a new record for Roblox, capping off a summer of unprecedented engagement, during which the platform regularly saw weekend player peaks of around 30 million.

In comparison, Steam as a whole reached a peak of 37.9 million concurrent online accounts on August 23, with 11.2 million actively playing (per SteamDB). Fortnite, by contrast, recorded a daily peak of 1.6 million players. Steam had previously surpassed 40 million concurrent users earlier this year, following the release of Monster Hunter Wilds.

On August 23 alone, Grow a Garden hit a peak of 22 million players, while Steal a Brainrot attracted 15 million. The viral sensation Grow a Garden lets players buy and cultivate plants—including rare varieties available only for a limited time—driving massive surges as users scramble to log in. Steal a Brainrot, meanwhile, challenges players to collect Pokémon-like creatures and steal them from opponents.

Roblox’s rising popularity comes amid ongoing efforts by the platform to enhance player safety, following a series of controversies involving its predominantly young audience. Last month, Roblox introduced a new age estimation tool to better verify teen users and enabled “trusted connections,” allowing teens to chat with approved peers without content filters.
