Borderlands 4 Infinite Damage Build Defeats Bosses in Seconds

Dec 14,25

Borderlands 4 players have uncovered an overpowered damage build so effective it eliminates bosses in mere seconds — even on the game's most challenging settings.

According to PC Gamer, YouTuber NickTew showcased gameplay featuring a Vex build that completely trivializes Borderlands 4's most formidable foes. With the strategy rapidly gaining popularity, fans are certain Gearbox will soon issue a significant nerf. As NickTew advised: "exploit it while it lasts."

To execute this build, you'll need the Vampiric Vivisecting Throwing Knife equipped with the Penetrator Augment. Successfully striking an enemy with this knife guarantees all subsequent damage becomes automatic critical hits for five seconds.

The real breakthrough comes from combining this with bleed stacking—each bleed damage tick counts as an individual critical hit. That's right, every single one registers as a crit.

While this strategy benefits every character class, it becomes particularly devastating for Vex thanks to her Bloodletter passive ability. This enables both gun and skill critical hits to potentially inflict bleed status, which qualifies as gun damage and scales based on the initial hit's damage.

Vex's Contamination passive further amplifies the devastation by increasing status effect application chance up to 100% with critical hits, creating an infinite bleed reapplication cycle. Simply throw the knife, land one powerful shot on the boss, and watch the damage numbers escalate as the bleed effect dismantles them.

NickTew demonstrated the build's potency by eliminating a boss using a level 32 weapon on Ultimate Vault Hunter Level 5 difficulty—where enemies possess 350% additional health—and still defeating them within seconds.

The primary challenge lies in obtaining a knife with this specific augment, as it's quite rare (hopefully you didn't sell or discard one acquired earlier!). You'll likely need to farm for it—Splashzone appears to be a promising location. Once acquired, however, the build is essentially complete.

It's important to note that this build may encounter issues during cooperative play, though the specific cause remains unclear.

While Gearbox will undoubtedly review this build, Borderlands 4 creative director Graime Timmins has stated the development team won't "make knee-jerk reactions to any particular strategy." Still, many players believe this build should be adjusted, as it clearly disrupts the game's intended balance.

"I genuinely believe this needs nerfing," commented one YouTube user. "There's overpowered, and then there's this. It reduces the game to the point where weapons become irrelevant. Just apply the penetrator debuff and bleed, then watch the damage scale exponentially. This likely wasn't an interaction developers anticipated during balance testing."

Gearbox currently faces numerous challenges, including performance optimization (amid Randy Pitchford's ongoing social media activity), implementing a field of view (FOV) slider for console versions, and developing post-launch content.
