Elden Ring: Nightreign will remove an iconic feature of the last game. Why won't players be able to leave messages?

Elden Ring: Nightreign removes the in-game messaging feature, a departure from previous FromSoftware titles. Project director Junya Ishizaki explained this decision, stating that the approximately forty-minute gameplay sessions are too short to allow players sufficient time to leave or read messages.

"Due to the roughly forty-minute session length, there's insufficient time for sending or checking messages; therefore, we disabled this feature," Ishizaki stated.

This choice is noteworthy given the prominent role messaging has played in enhancing player interaction and enjoyment in past FromSoftware games. However, the development team determined the feature wasn't suitable for Nightreign's design.

To preserve the integrity of the original Elden Ring, Nightreign features an independent narrative. The game provides a new adventure with distinct challenges and encounters, while retaining the signature atmosphere and complexity of the Elden Ring world.
