Four-lane Map Transforms into Three Lanes

Deadlock Changes from Four Lanes to Three in New Major Update

In a bold move, Deadlock's latest major update reduces its map from four lanes to three, streamlining the game's structure and enhancing various features. Valve shared comprehensive details of this full map rework and adjustments to other mechanics on Steam on February 26, 2025.

The update outlines a transition from four lanes to three, accompanied by "a wide array of map-wide changes including visuals, building layouts, pathways, neutral camps, air vents, breakables, powerup buffs, juke spots, and the mid boss." Deadlock's unique third-person perspective in the MOBA genre already sets it apart, and this redesign aims to simplify and enhance gameplay.

Moreover, the update introduces changes to farming enemy troopers. Players will no longer need to last-hit enemies to summon Soul Orbs, making early laning phases more accessible. The patch notes also promise improvements in the game's netcode and client performance, ensuring smoother gameplay.

A Crucial Update for Deadlock

This update could be the catalyst needed to reignite interest and engagement within Deadlock's community. Following a significant spike in active players in September 2024, with an all-time peak of 171,490, the game experienced a 90% drop in player count, averaging around 17,000 players last month.

Valve Developer Yoshi shared insights on Deadlock's Discord server in January 2025, explaining the shift in their update schedule. Yoshi noted, "Going forward, major patches will no longer be on a fixed schedule. These patches will be larger than before, albeit a little more spaced out, and hotfixes will continue to be released as needed. We look forward to fleshing out the game in the new year."

Deadlock remains in active development and playtesting, accessible only via friend invites. While no specific release date has been announced, stay tuned to our Deadlock page for the latest updates and information about the game.
