"Dead by Daylight" Eyes The Thing, Cujo as New Killers

Dead by Daylight is finally welcoming Five Nights at Freddy's to its roster, but Behaviour Interactive has even more horror icons on its wishlist.

The developers behind the hit asymmetrical horror game shared their licensing ambitions during an exclusive IGN interview. The team constantly brainstorms new Killer and Survivor additions, with some members passionately championing specific franchises.

Designer's Dream Killer

"I've been campaigning nonstop for two and a half years to bring The Thing into Dead by Daylight," reveals Killer Designer Jason Guzzo, the horror enthusiast responsible for introducing fan-favorites like Chucky, Dracula and Springtrap.

The studio views each crossover as a major milestone, but Guzzo admits John Carpenter's The Thing remains his personal holy grail. "While there are currently no active discussions about it, that 1982 masterpiece is my dream collaboration," he confesses. "I've dedicated my tenure here to solving the creative challenges of adapting such a complex shapeshifting antagonist."

Guzzo clarifies his enthusiasm isn't teasing future content, acknowledging the significant design hurdles required to faithfully translate the mimic-based horror into gameplay. Still, he maintains this passion project remains his "professional crusade."

Creative Director's Wishlist

Creative Director Dave Richard explains these dream roster discussions are standard practice at Behaviour. While he mentions Pennywise as an obvious but exciting candidate, Richard adopts a collector's mentality: "Every horror legend deserves consideration - I want them all."

The team also enjoys brainstorming unconventional possibilities. "Some suggestions start as jokes," Richard admits, "but we believe everything deserves consideration in our expanded universe timeline - even Cujo or Christine could work."

The Stephen King references point to potential animal antagonists (the rabid St. Bernard from Cujo) or even supernatural vehicles (the titular possessed Plymouth Fury from Christine) - radical departures from the game's traditional humanoid killers.

Looking Ahead

With Dead by Daylight approaching its ninth anniversary, the development shows no signs of slowing down. The Five Nights at Freddy's Chapter arrives June 17, introducing Springtrap and a new pizzeria map.
