Elven Curse
This simple non-field RPG challenges you to escape a cursed forest.
- Prologue -
You're the village's best hunter, drawn to a national hunting tournament near the royal capital. After the opening ceremony, you venture into the forest, only to wake and find your campsite deserted. Fellow hunters have vanished, leaving behind only remnants of their presence. National guards, responsible for the tournament, are nowhere to be seen.
Your attempts to retrace your steps prove futile; you're inexplicably lost, despite your confident sense of direction. The forest seems to shift and distort, creating an unsettling and disorienting experience.
- The Elven Curse -
Aided by Foria, a mysterious quarter-elf, you must utilize your hunting skills to escape the cursed woodland. Gameplay is streamlined, using a maximum of three buttons outside the main menu.
- Character Creation -
While character customization is limited, you can freely reroll stats. Stat increases from leveling up are only visible on the character creation screen and cannot be checked in-game. This screen also serves as a return point. Game over occurs when your life force reaches zero and you have fewer than two talismans.
- Foria, the Peddler Quarter-Elf -
Foria, a seemingly young quarter-elf, secretly assists your escape using the forest's ancient spirits. Their dialogue is cheerful, contrasting with the game's overall somber atmosphere.
- Game Mechanics -
- Exploration: Navigate the forest by exploring unexplored areas. Exploration success is determined by "fog depth" – influenced by your character's stats. Use poison and rare talismans to restore vitality when needed.
- Beast Encounters: The forest is inhabited by various creatures, from wolves to frogs, all potentially hostile. Defeating them yields hides for trading. Unlike typical RPGs, combat is optional and doesn't involve leveling up. Maintain distance to attack with your bow and arrow, or use wound medicine. If caught, choose between withdrawing or using a flash ball provided by Foria.
- Cloak System: Craft a cloak from gathered materials to enhance your abilities. Up to three layers can be added, with each layer providing a cumulative stat boost. Note that the top layer can be damaged and destroyed.
- Skill Selection: Choose from a variety of randomly presented skills.
- Game Features -
This game emphasizes strategic thinking, skill, luck, and resource management (material gathering, synthesis). It's a game about the journey, not just reaching the end. An autosave system is present, but it's not always reliable; saving is recommended from the base menu.
- Version 1.2 Update (December 18, 2024) -
This update addresses a bug causing unintended transitions to the character creation mode, as well as previous fixes for typos and minor bugs.
