Tides of Annihilation Arthurian Knights Concept is Tencent's Appeal to Westerners

In a recent interview with Wccftech, the developers at Eclipse Glow Games revealed the intriguing concept behind their upcoming action-RPG, Tides of Annihilation, explaining their choice of an Arthurian setting in modern-day London.
Tides of Annihilation: A Western-Focused Arthurian Adventure
Arthurian Myths and Knights: The Core Concept

At Gamescom 2024, Eclipse Glow Games, a Chinese studio backed by Tencent, discussed the game's design and potential for future installments. The decision to set Tides of Annihilation in a Western context, specifically utilizing Arthurian legends, stemmed directly from Tencent's strategic vision. While Tencent's other investment, Black Myth: Wukong, targeted the Chinese market, Tides of Annihilation was explicitly designed for a Western audience. The producer's initial concept centered on knights, naturally evolving into the iconic King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table.
The game unfolds in a post-apocalyptic London, ravaged by an invasion from an "Outworld," leaving Gwendolyn as seemingly the sole human survivor. This modern-day setting seamlessly blends with fantasy elements directly inspired by Arthurian myths.
Devil May Cry-Inspired Combat and a Roster of Bosses

The gameplay reveals a combat system heavily reminiscent of Devil May Cry, a fact acknowledged by the developers. They describe the combat as "definitely more like Devil May Cry," but with adjustable difficulty settings to broaden accessibility. Simplified controls cater to action-RPG fans of all skill levels.
Players can customize their combat style with four distinct weapons and over ten Knights of the Round Table as companions. Gwendolyn's ability to command these legendary knights adds a unique strategic layer to the gameplay. With over 30 bosses boasting unique abilities, players can anticipate challenging and rewarding encounters. "Players will have to prepare for very challenging boss fights," the developers emphasized.
An Anthology in the Making?

Eclipse Glow Games also hinted at the possibility of expanding the Tides of Annihilation franchise into an anthology, featuring different settings, mythologies, and protagonists. The core concept of the Outworld invasion would remain a unifying element. The success of the initial title will be crucial in determining the future of this ambitious project.
Currently in beta, Tides of Annihilation is slated for release in 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Players will embark on an epic journey alongside Gwendolyn, battling fate itself to save not only London but also the intertwined fantasy realm of Avalon.
