Nintendo's recent reveal of the Nintendo Switch 2 and Mario Kart 9 has sparked discussion amongst fans, particularly regarding Donkey Kong's redesigned appearance, seemingly influenced by The Super Mario Bros. Movie.

The trailer showcased numerous characters, most appearing as expected. However, Donkey Kong's noticeably different design stands out. His appearance has remained consistent for years, featuring in titles such as Mario Kart 8, Mario Tennis, and Donkey Kong Country Returns. The film's successful reimagining of the character has seemingly inspired Nintendo to update his in-game design.

The Mario Kart 9 trailer offered only fleeting glimpses of Donkey Kong, hindering a detailed comparison. However, the differences are already apparent. A more thorough comparison is anticipated during April's Nintendo Switch 2 Nintendo Direct. The console reveal trailer primarily focused on the Switch 2's aesthetics, hinting at backward compatibility, new Joy-Con buttons, and the potential use of the controller as a mouse.

While a 2025 release window has been announced, the Nintendo Switch 2's launch is likely delayed until at least June, due to numerous planned hands-on events worldwide, with registration opening shortly.
