Monster Hunter Wilds Introduces Real-Money Microtransactions

Mar 06,25

Monster Hunter Wilds' new character customization feature sparks controversy. Capcom's latest title allows hunters to edit their appearance and that of their Palico companions, but subsequent edits require purchasing Character Edit Vouchers. These vouchers are sold in packs of three for $6 or a dual-character pack for $10. While initial customization is free, players are limited to hairstyles, eyebrow color, makeup, and clothing without purchasing vouchers; core facial features remain unchangeable.

This monetization method was not revealed prior to launch and was only announced last week via Capcom's social media. Despite negative reactions to the microtransactions and reported performance issues, Monster Hunter Wilds still achieved a remarkable launch, boasting over 1.3 million concurrent players on Steam.

Capcom has yet to respond to player concerns. The community is largely unhappy with the paid customization, contrasting it with previous games in the series where appearance changes were free or earned through gameplay. Many players feel this paid system diminishes a core element of the Monster Hunter experience.
