Pokémon TCG Pocket faithfully recreates the Paralyze condition from the physical card game, albeit with minor adjustments. This guide offers a comprehensive overview of this special condition.
Understanding Paralyzed
Paralyze immobilizes the opponent's Active Pokémon for a single turn, preventing attacks and retreats. The effect automatically dissipates after the opponent's next Checkup phase.
Paralyzed vs. Asleep
Paralyze and Asleep share similarities, hindering the opponent's Pokémon's actions. However, Paralyze resolves automatically, while Asleep requires a coin flip or specific counter-strategies for recovery.
Paralyzed in Pokémon Pocket vs. Physical TCG
Unlike the physical TCG, where cards like Full Heal can counter Paralyze, Pokémon Pocket currently lacks direct counters. The core mechanic, however, remains consistent: a Paralyzed Pokémon is incapacitated for one turn.
Pokémon with the Paralyze Ability
Currently, only three Genetic Apex cards inflict Paralyze: Pincurchin, Elektross, and Articuno. Each relies on a coin flip, introducing an element of randomness.
Recovering from Paralyzed
Four methods exist to cure Paralysis:
- Automatic Recovery: The condition ends at the start of your next turn.
- Evolution: Evolving the Paralyzed Pokémon instantly removes the effect.
- Retreat: Retreating the Pokémon removes the status effect (since Bench Pokémon cannot have Special Conditions).
- Support Cards: Currently limited to Koga (effective only on Weezing or Muk).
Building a Paralyze Deck
Paralyze alone isn't a highly effective deck archetype. Combining it with Asleep, as in the Articuno & Frosmoth strategy, significantly boosts its potential. This approach leverages Articuno, Frosmoth, and Wigglytuff ex to inflict both conditions.
Sample Paralyze-Asleep Deck
Card | Quantity |
---|---|
Wigglypuff ex | 2 |
Jigglypuff | 2 |
Snom | 2 |
Frosmoth | 2 |
Articuno | 2 |
Misty | 2 |
Sabrina | 2 |
X Speed | 2 |
