Obsidian's Avowed: 60 FPS on Xbox Series X Confirmed, Series S Locked at 30 FPS

Avowed, Obsidian Entertainment's highly anticipated RPG, will achieve a frame rate of up to 60 frames per second (fps) on the Xbox Series X, according to game director Carrie Patel in a MinnMax interview. While she didn't elaborate on specifics, the confirmation contrasts with the previously announced 30fps cap for the Xbox Series S version.

Whether Avowed will offer selectable performance and graphics modes (60fps with lower visuals vs. 30fps with enhanced visuals) remains unclear. It's possible the 60fps target is the default setting for the Series X.

The game's release date features a staggered rollout based on edition price. The premium edition, priced at $89.99, grants early access on February 13th, while the standard $69.99 edition launches on February 18th. This pricing strategy, while becoming increasingly common, has already been abandoned by some publishers like Ubisoft.

Avowed, set within the Pillars of Eternity universe, is a first-person fantasy RPG emphasizing player agency and choice. Players will unravel mysteries, navigate complex relationships, and forge their own paths through a world steeped in war and intrigue.

IGN's final preview lauded the game's engaging conversations, player freedom, and overall enjoyment, describing it as "just a lot of fun."
