Behind the Bricks: Interview With Designer Ann Healy

We spoke with Senior Model Designer Ann Healy about creating LEGO's first Simpsons set in nearly ten years. The six-year LEGO veteran shares insights about reviving this beloved franchise.

Previous LEGO projects you've worked on?

Healy: My portfolio includes three years developing LEGO Friends lines, followed by designing Hocus Pocus' Sanderson Sisters' Cottage. Recently on the LEGO Icons team, I created last year's McLaren MP4/4 & Ayrton Senna set and the Botanicals Poinsettia collection.

Why revive The Simpsons license now?

Healy: Market research revealed enduring global affection for The Simpsons among LEGO fans. Interestingly, I discovered an early Krusty Burger prototype during my first week at LEGO - exactly five years before this project's greenlight!

Design process specifics?

Healy: We refined the prototype through approximately 20 iterations, transitioning between digital models and physical builds. Key collaborators included Disney's IP team, our Creative Lead, and model testing groups evaluating structural integrity.

Episodic references used?

Healy: Disney provided reference materials, while we extensively studied episodes featuring the Mother Nature Burger ("Coming to Homerica"), Ribwich ("I'm Spelling as Fast as I Can"), and classic moments like Homer's grease-selling scheme ("Lard of the Dance").

Favorite hidden detail?

Healy: The kitchen display showing an order for 700 burgers nods to Season 5's infamous oil rig location.

Biggest design challenge?

Healy: Perfecting Krusty's facial proportions in the iconic sign required collaboration with former illustrators and implementing innovative axle sleeve technology for stability.

Future Simpsons sets?

Healy: While I can't confirm future releases, as a lifelong fan, I'm hopeful this set's reception might greenlight more Springfield adventures!
