Jason Momoa, renowned for his portrayal of Aquaman in the now-defunct DC Extended Universe (DCEU), is set to bring the iconic character Lobo to life in the 2026 DC Universe (DCU) movie, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Lobo, an interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter with superhuman strength and immortality, originates from the planet Czarnia, and is the last survivor of his race, much like Superman. Created by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen, Lobo first appeared in Omega Men #3 in 1983. Momoa has expressed his enthusiasm for the role, citing Lobo as his favorite comic book character and highlighting aesthetic similarities between himself and the character.

In an interview with ScreenRant, Momoa offered a glimpse into what fans can expect from Lobo's appearance in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. He emphasized his excitement and nervousness about playing a character he has long admired, hinting at a faithful adaptation of Lobo's look and rough demeanor. "Well, this is the role I've always wanted to play," Momoa shared. "That’s the comic I loved, so I'm really nervous about it. It’s kind of a no-brainer to play this character. It's pretty big. I don't want to give away too much, but I mean, we look pretty dead on, exactly like the character, and he’s pretty rough and gruff and… I'll say the bike’s really cool."

When asked about Lobo's screen time, Momoa clarified, "It’s her movie, so it's great. I just come in for a little bit." This suggests that while fans will get to see Lobo in action, his role will be more of a cameo in the film centered around Supergirl.

In January, DC co-chief James Gunn shared the first photo of Milly Alcock as Supergirl, though it didn't reveal much. Gunn announced on Bluesky that filming had commenced for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, featuring Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El aka Supergirl.

The movie is heavily based on the graphic novel of the same name by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Norgueira. The story follows an alien girl named Ruthye Marye Knoll, who recruits Supergirl to avenge her father's murder by the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills. Matthias Schoenaerts plays Krem, while Eve Ridley portrays Ruthye. The cast also includes David Krumholtz as Supergirl's father Zor-El and Emily Beecham as Supergirl's mother.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is slated for release in June 2026, marking the second film in the new DCU following James Gunn's Superman set to hit theaters this summer. Another DCU film, Clayface, is scheduled for September 2026.
