Beginner's Guide: Mastering Rune Slayer Basics

Apr 26,25

After two challenging launches and an eagerly awaited release, *Rune Slayer* has finally hit the scene, and it's nothing short of spectacular. Whether you're a seasoned MMORPG player or a newcomer, diving into *Rune Slayer* can be both thrilling and overwhelming. Fear not—we've crafted a comprehensive guide to kickstart your adventure in this vibrant world.

Rune Slayer Beginner Tips

Here's a rundown of essential tips we wish we had known at the start, which would have smoothed our initial journey:

Do not randomly attack other players

Upon hearing that *Rune Slayer* featured full-loot PvP, we braced for chaos. Fortunately, our fears were mostly unfounded. **In *Rune Slayer*, dying—even to other players—doesn't result in permanent loss.** You'll simply respawn and carry on.

However, initiating attacks on other players comes with a twist: **you'll accrue a bounty.** The more players you kill, the higher your bounty grows, and consequently, the more items you'll drop upon death. Thus, the only way to experience true full-loot PvP is by attacking others, risking higher drops upon your own demise.

Therefore, our advice is to **refrain from attacking other players** unless you have a compelling reason or the support of a group to back you up.

Craft Bags ASAP

You'll quickly discover that both your **bank space and inventory are quite limited.** With a cap at 50 items, your inventory can fill up alarmingly fast. The solution? **Craft bags.** You can equip up to two bags simultaneously, starting with the **Cotton Bag**.

To craft a Cotton Bag, gather **Cotton from north of Wayshire and Flax from the south**—though be cautious of the mobs in the southern areas. Each Cotton Bag adds an extra 10 slots to your inventory, so prioritize crafting these as soon as possible.

Your pets don’t actually die

It's a common misunderstanding that when your tamed pets hit zero health, they perish. In reality, **a "dead" pet can't be summoned again for 5 minutes.** You can check the cooldown duration by holding **T** after your pet "dies." Once the cooldown ends, hold **T** again to summon your pet back into action.

Bonus Tip: For a quick **heal**, simply store and unstore your pet at the stable master. You get one free slot, so make use of it.

Grab all the Quests (Yes, all of them)

*Rune Slayer* is packed with quests—more than you can count. While most are one-offs and not particularly memorable, they follow the familiar "Kill 10 X" format common in MMORPGs. Given their sheer volume, you might not bother reading each one thoroughly.

Our solution? **Accept every quest you encounter.** From the Job board to random encounters, grab them all. Completing multiple quests simultaneously is far more efficient than tackling them one by one. You'll often find yourself completing multiple objectives in a single outing. We were surprised to find we had three quests ready to turn in on our return to Wayshire.

Craft everything at least once (even things you don’t need)

While it's essential to craft items you need first, don't hesitate to use **spare materials** to craft other items, even if they seem unnecessary. **Crafting something for the first time often unlocks new, more powerful crafting options.** For example, smelting our first Iron Ore unlocked a range of new Iron Armor crafts. So, be liberal with your materials and experiment with crafting.

Join a Guild

*Rune Slayer* is accommodating for solo players, but as you delve deeper, you'll encounter **tougher enemies** designed for group combat, particularly those with large health bars. **Joining a guild** is the easiest way to find a group for tackling these formidable foes.

Look for a guild by posting in the general chat or use the official *Rune Slayer* Discord server to connect with like-minded players.

That's it for our beginner's guide to *Rune Slayer*. Enjoy your journey, and if you're yet to start, check out the *Rune Slayer* Trello and Discord for more tips and community interaction.
