Insomniac Games Looks For More Game-To-Screen Adaptations

Insomniac Games has expressed a keen interest in expanding their portfolio into movies, with a particular focus on their flagship series, Ratchet and Clank. Schneider reminisced about the 2016 Ratchet and Clank film, stating, "I think back to the Ratchet and Clank film from several years ago. And we kind of got an early start on that. So, of course, we’re interested in that kind of thing. We love Ratchet and Clank in particular."

Despite the mixed reviews of the 2016 film, Insomniac's confidence in future adaptations has been bolstered by their acquisition by Sony in 2019. Sony's track record with successful game-to-screen projects, such as the critically acclaimed The Last of Us series, provides a solid foundation for Insomniac's ambitions.

Sony’s Video Game Adaptations Lineup

Sony has demonstrated its prowess in adapting video games into compelling films and TV series. Notable successes include the Uncharted movie in 2022 and the Last of Us TV series in 2023. Looking ahead, Sony announced several exciting projects at the CES 2025 press conference. The Last of Us Season 2 is set to premiere on HBO in April 2025, followed by the Until Dawn live-action film in the same month. Additionally, fans can look forward to the Ghost of Tsushima Legends anime series on Crunchyroll in 2027, along with upcoming feature films for Helldivers and Horizon Zero Dawn, though specific release dates for these latter projects remain undisclosed.

In a significant leadership change, Insomniac's founder and CEO, Ted Price, announced his retirement after an illustrious 30-year career. Price, who has been instrumental in developing iconic franchises like Spyro the Dragon, Ratchet & Clank, and Marvel’s Spider-Man, shared, "I actually made this decision last year. For me, after over 30 years of leading Insomniac, I felt it was simply time to step aside and let others pave the way for our team."

The reins of the company will now be held by three seasoned Insomniac veterans: Ryan Schneider, Chad Dezern, and Jen Huang, who will serve as Co-Studio Heads. Price expressed his confidence in the new leadership, stating, "I believe strongly that for us to continue our success, we need leaders at the top who are intimately familiar with how we do things, leaders who have helped build our culture and our processes, and who have earned people’s trust."
