HBO has unveiled the cast for the pivotal roles of Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley in their much-anticipated television adaptation of the Harry Potter series. The roles will be portrayed by newcomers Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley.

Showrunner and executive producer Francesca Gardiner, along with director Mark Mylod, who will helm multiple episodes, expressed their excitement in a joint statement: "After an extraordinary search led by casting directors Lucy Bevan and Emily Brockmann, we are delighted to announce we have found our Harry, Hermione, and Ron. The talent of these three unique actors is wonderful to behold, and we cannot wait for the world to witness their magic together onscreen. We would like to thank all the tens of thousands of children who auditioned. It's been a real pleasure to discover the plethora of young talent out there.”

In April, Warner Bros. and HBO confirmed the first six cast members who will bring new interpretations to the iconic Hogwarts professors in the upcoming series. This initial announcement included John Lithgow, previously known for roles in Conclave and Dexter, who confirmed he would portray Albus Dumbledore, along with other actors whose casting had been widely speculated.

Harry Potter HBO TV Series Cast and Characters: Who's Confirmed for the Reboot?

View 8 ImagesAmong the familiar faces confirmed for the series are Nick Frost, renowned for his roles in Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, who will take on the role of Rubeus Hagrid, and Paapa Essiedu, celebrated for his performances in I May Destroy You and Black Mirror, who will portray Severus Snape. Completing the ensemble are Janet McTeer, known from Me Before You and The Menu, as Minerva McGonagall, Luke Thallon from The Favourite and Present Laughter as Quirinus Quirrell, and Paul Whitehouse, famous for The Fast Show and Alice Through the Looking Glass, as Argus Filch.

The characters of Dumbledore, Hagrid, and Snape are not only central to the Harry Potter universe but have also become iconic figures in pop culture. The actors stepping into these roles face the challenge of living up to the legacy of these beloved characters. John Lithgow, who will play Dumbledore, shared his thoughts on the role earlier this year with ScreenRant: “I just got the phone call up at the Sundance Film Festival for yet another film, and it was not an easy decision because it’s going to define me for the last chapter of my life, I’m afraid. But I’m very excited. Some wonderful people are turning their attention back to Harry Potter. That’s why it’s been such a hard decision. I’ll be about 87 years old at the wrap party, but I’ve said yes.”
