Gran Saga Shuts Down Next Month

May 02,25

NPIXEL has officially announced the closure of Gran Saga, signaling the end of its brief international journey. The game's service will cease on April 30th, 2025, and in-app purchases (IAPs) along with new downloads have already been disabled. If you've made any in-game purchases, you can request refunds until May 30th, though this may depend on whether you've used the items or other store policies.

Originally launched in Japan in 2021 with considerable success, Gran Saga's global version was introduced in November 2024 but managed to survive for only six months before the shutdown was announced. The decision to close the game appears to stem from financial instability and challenges in sustaining a viable service in the fiercely competitive global market.

The genre is dominated by well-established titles with loyal followings, making it extremely tough for newcomers to gain traction unless they offer something revolutionary. Despite its initial success in Japan, Gran Saga couldn't maintain that momentum on the international stage, resulting in an early departure.

Gran Saga closure announcementThis closure adds to the ongoing trend of gacha RPGs shutting down. Just last month, I reported on the end of My Hero Academia: The Strongest Hero, and it's not the only one; numerous other games have also succumbed to the pressures of a saturated market. With so many choices, players often stick to familiar titles, making it difficult for new or niche games to endure.

For those who ventured into the world of Ethprozen, this farewell is bittersweet, reflecting a common challenge in the mobile gaming industry. If you're seeking a new adventure, be sure to explore our curated list of the best MMOs to play on Android to find your next gaming home.
