"Hey, Mary!" is penned by Andrew Wheeler, known for his work on "Cat Fight" and "Another Castle," and illustrated by Rye Hickman, who brought to life "The Harrowing" and "Bad Dream". Here's the official synopsis from Oni Press:

Mark is a devout Catholic boy. He attends church, prays diligently, and is often preoccupied with thoughts of hell. When Mark discovers he has feelings for another boy at his school, he struggles to align his emotions with his religious beliefs. The weight of centuries of shame and judgment, coupled with his fear of his parents' reaction, bears heavily on him. In his quest for guidance, Mark turns to his priest, a local drag performer, and unexpectedly receives insights from iconic figures in Catholic history like Joan of Arc, Michelangelo, St. Sebastian, and Savonarola. Mark is left to ponder a crucial question: Can he embrace both his Catholic faith and his sexuality?

Andrew Wheeler shares with IGN, "Hey, Mary! explores the complex relationship between queerness and Catholicism through the lens of Mark's teenage struggles. This narrative taps into centuries of art and expression, making it relatable and accessible. In this excerpt, Mark receives an art history lesson from his friend and crush, Luka, and experiences a fantastical encounter with a notable queer Catholic icon. It's both entertaining and educational."

Rye Hickman adds, "A huge thank you to our colorist, Hank Jones, for the vibrant colors on the turtles in the first page of this preview! 'Hey, Mary!' is peppered with nods to art history, much like an elaborate easter egg hunt. Given the Catholic Church's significant influence on religious iconography, we've woven elements from iconic works like The Pietà into the story. These images are not only evocative and emotionally charged but can also be sexually provocative, posing a challenge in reconciling them with personal beliefs."

Wheeler concludes, "Incorporating Catholic art references was a joy, and Rye's execution is brilliant. These references enhance the visual storytelling, offering a richer experience for those who recognize them."
