Ex-Bethesda Dev Predicts Fallout 3 Remaster to Enhance Gun Combat

May 04,25

With the successful release of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, fans are eagerly anticipating which Bethesda game will be next in line for a remaster. Many speculate that Fallout 3, which was leaked in 2023, could be the next candidate. Bruce Nesmith, a designer of Fallout 3, has highlighted areas where the game could see significant improvements, particularly in its gun combat, which he described as "not good."

In an interview with VideoGamer, Nesmith suggested that a remastered Fallout 3 would feature shooting mechanics more akin to those in Fallout 4. He noted the substantial improvements made to gun combat in Fallout 4, Bethesda's first attempt at a shooter-style game with Fallout 3. Nesmith praised the advancements as "amazing" and anticipated similar enhancements in a potential Fallout 3 Remastered.

Oblivion Remastered, crafted by remake specialists Virtuos using Unreal Engine 5, has set a high bar with its extensive list of visual and gameplay improvements. It boasts 4K resolution and 60 frames per second, alongside significant enhancements in leveling systems, character creation, combat animations, and in-game menus. Additionally, the remaster includes new dialogue, a refined third-person view, and advanced lip sync technology. These changes have led some fans to consider it more of a remake than a remaster, although Bethesda has clarified its decision to opt for a remaster.

Nesmith also suggested that Fallout 3 Remastered might incorporate similar upgrades as seen in Oblivion Remastered. He acknowledged that Fallout 3's combat did not compare well to contemporary shooters and emphasized that, as an RPG shooter, it would benefit from the advancements made in Fallout 4. He further praised Oblivion Remastered, noting that it has been updated beyond the 2011 version of Skyrim, suggesting it could be dubbed "Oblivion 2.0."

Bethesda is currently juggling multiple projects, including The Elder Scrolls VI, potential expansions for Starfield, ongoing work on Fallout 76, and the Fallout TV show, which is set to explore New Vegas in its second season. This busy schedule promises a wealth of content for fans in the coming years.
