Dragon Quest 3 Remake: Unlocking the Secrets of the Yellow Orb

The Yellow Orb in Dragon Quest 3 Remake is notoriously tricky to obtain. While the steps aren't overly complex, knowing where to start is the real challenge. This guide will walk you through acquiring this elusive orb.

The Yellow Orb resides in Merchantburg, a town initially marked only as "???" on the map. Its name is determined by the merchant you establish the town with. Therefore, you must first establish and develop this village before you can claim the Yellow Orb.

Locating Merchantburg (???)

After obtaining the ship from the King of Portoga (following the Black Pepper quest), Merchantburg's location becomes accessible. With quest markers enabled, you'll find it in the northeast corner of the world map; sailing west from the coast will bring you to the easternmost point of the eastern continent.

Optimal Timing for Merchantburg

While orb collection order is flexible, establishing Merchantburg early is highly recommended. The town requires significant time to grow before yielding the Yellow Orb. Establishing it early allows you to collect other orbs concurrently, returning to Merchantburg as it progresses.

Obtaining the Yellow Orb

Establishing Merchantburg:

First, hire a new merchant from PALS in Aliahan. Travel directly to Merchantburg to minimize combat encounters with your new party member.

Upon arrival, enter the single building. Speak to the old man who wishes to found a town but needs a merchant. Assign your newly hired merchant to this task. They'll leave your party, and the town will receive its official name.

Merchantburg's Growth:

Following the suggested order (Purple Orb from Orochi's Lair, Blue Orb from Gaia's Navel), you'll receive notifications to revisit Merchantburg. The town progresses through five stages of growth, each marked by a notification. The final stage includes a large cabaret. Remember to haggle with the security guard outside the cabaret after its completion.

By the fourth visit, the merchant's popularity may wane, signifying the end of their reign and the Yellow Orb's imminent availability.

Claiming the Yellow Orb:

On your fifth and final visit (at night), you'll find the merchant missing. The townsfolk have revolted, imprisoning them in the house south of their former residence.

Speak with the imprisoned merchant. They'll reveal the Yellow Orb's location. Return to their former home; a quest marker will appear behind the sofa. Interact with the ground to uncover the Yellow Orb.

For most players, the Yellow Orb will be among the last orbs collected, after obtaining the Red Orb (Pirate's Den), Green Orb (Theddon), and Silver Orb (Maw of the Necrogond/Necrogond Shrine).
