"Dragon Age: The Veilguard Director Leaves BioWare"

Corinne Busche, the director behind Dragon Age: The Veilguard, is reportedly set to leave EA-owned BioWare in the coming weeks. According to Eurogamer, Busche served as the game director for Dragon Age: The Veilguard from February 2022 until its launch in October of the previous year. IGN has reached out to EA for further comment on this development.

Since its release, Dragon Age: The Veilguard has faced scrutiny regarding its commercial success. Despite this, Eurogamer notes that Busche's departure is not linked to the game's performance. EA has yet to disclose whether the sales and revenue of Dragon Age: The Veilguard met or exceeded their expectations, with the company set to reveal its Q3 2025 financial results on February 4.

Busche joined BioWare in 2019 following her work at Maxis on The Sims projects. Her role in steering Dragon Age: The Veilguard to completion was highlighted in IGN's article 'How BioWare Finally Got Dragon Age to the Finish Line After a Tumultuous Decade,' which chronicled the game's development journey from a multiplayer framework to a full single-player RPG.

BioWare has confirmed that there are no plans for Dragon Age: The Veilguard DLC, as the studio shifts its focus to the highly anticipated Mass Effect 5. This shift comes amidst other significant changes at BioWare, including the layoffs of around 50 employees in August 2023, which coincided with the release of Larian's successful Dungeons & Dragons RPG, Baldur's Gate 3. Among those laid off were long-time BioWare veterans like narrative designer Mary Kirby.

These layoffs were part of a broader restructuring at EA, which saw the company split into sports and non-sports divisions. Rumors of BioWare's potential acquisition circulated that summer, and Star Wars: The Old Republic was transitioned to a third-party developer to allow BioWare to concentrate on Mass Effect and Dragon Age.

The journey of Dragon Age: The Veilguard has been tumultuous, with the initial reveal trailer in 2024 receiving negative feedback. This led to a quick follow-up with an early gameplay tease to reassure fans. The game's name change from Dreadwolf to The Veilguard also stirred mixed reactions, though subsequent impressions were generally positive.

As BioWare navigates these changes, Dragon Age fans are left pondering the future of the franchise, wondering if there will be another sequel following The Veilguard.
