Diablo 4's Next Expansion After Vessel of Hatred Won't Come Until 2026

Feb 27,25

Diablo 4 fans anticipating a new expansion in 2025 will need to adjust their expectations. Diablo general manager Rod Fergusson recently announced at the DICE Summit that the next major expansion won't arrive until 2026.

Fergusson highlighted the studio's commitment to improved community engagement, mirroring the strategies employed by Diablo Immortal and World of Warcraft. This includes the upcoming release of a content roadmap for Diablo 4 in 2025, detailing seasonal updates and content releases. However, he explicitly stated that the second expansion will not be included in this roadmap, confirming its 2026 release date. He explained that while a roadmap for 2025 content (including seasons leading up to Season 8) is forthcoming, the second expansion's development timeline necessitates its postponement.

The delay, while not fully explained, is linked to the unforeseen circumstances surrounding the release of the first expansion, Vessel of Hatred. Originally planned for a 12-month release cycle, it ultimately launched 18 months post-game launch due to resource reallocation necessitated by player feedback and live content adjustments. This shift impacted the overall development schedule, pushing subsequent content, including the second expansion, back accordingly.

Currently, Diablo 4 players are enjoying the recently released Season of Witchcraft, featuring expanded witchcraft abilities, a new questline, and other additions. The base game itself received a glowing 9/10 rating, praised for its exceptional endgame and progression systems.
