Cheating Crackdown Controversy: Marvel Rivals Apologizes
NetEase's Marvel Rivals mistakenly bans innocent players. The developer, NetEase, issued an apology for wrongly banning numerous players who weren't cheating. The error primarily affected non-Windows users employing compatibility layers on macOS, Linux, and Steam Deck.
NetEase's recent anti-cheat measures inadvertently flagged these players as cheaters due to their use of compatibility software. The bans have since been lifted, and NetEase apologized for the inconvenience. Players experiencing wrongful bans are encouraged to appeal through in-game support or Discord. Proton, the SteamOS compatibility layer, is known for triggering anti-cheat systems.
Separately, players are calling for the implementation of in-game character bans across all ranks. Currently, this feature is only available at Diamond rank and above, leading to frustration among lower-ranked players who feel disadvantaged by certain overpowered characters. Many believe extending this mechanic to all ranks would improve gameplay balance and provide a more level playing field, allowing players to experiment with different strategies.
Reddit users expressed their concerns, highlighting the imbalance created by the current system. NetEase has yet to publicly respond to these requests for a rank-wide character ban system.
