How to Capture Monsters in Monster Hunter Wilds

Mar 18,25

Slaying monsters in Monster Hunter Wilds is rewarding, but sometimes you need their parts, requiring a capture instead of a kill. Here's how to successfully capture monsters:

Capturing Monsters in Monster Hunter Wilds

The process is surprisingly straightforward. Weaken the monster, trap it, then tranquilize it. Simple, right?

Your Palico will alert you when a monster is weak. Other indicators include a skull icon above the monster on your minimap, and visible signs of weakness like limping or drooling.

Once weak, deploy a Shock Trap or Pitfall Trap. Lure the monster onto the trap. Once trapped, quickly throw Tranq Bombs—one or two usually suffice. Alternatively, craft Tranq Ammo or Tranq Blades, depending on your weapon and preferred playstyle.

Capturing the monster ends the quest, returning you to Base Camp.

Obtaining Traps and Tranquilizer Items

While your Palico might occasionally set traps, it's best to carry your own. There are two trap types: Pitfall Traps (Trap Tool + Net [Spiderwebs or Ivy]) and Shock Traps (Trap Tool + Thunderbug Capacitor).

For tranquilizers, craft Tranq Bombs using a Sleep Herb and a Parashroom. These can be combined with Throwing Knives (Tranq Blades) or Normal Ammo (Tranq Ammo).
