Why to Build an XP Farm in Minecraft Bedrock?

Minecraft’s core mechanics depend heavily on experience points. You’ll need XP to enchant tools, armor, and weapons at the enchantment table, repair items at the anvil, and combine enchantments. Tools with the Mending enchantment heal automatically as you gain XP, so the more experience you collect, the longer your favorite gear lasts without replacement.

An XP farm is essential for both casual players and experienced adventurers. Instead of hunting mobs endlessly in the wild, an XP farm brings them to you—safe, efficient, and automated. With the right setup, you can level up quickly while also gathering valuable loot like bones, arrows, rotten flesh, and more.

The Simplest XP Farm: Mob Spawner-Based Design

Among the many XP farming methods in Minecraft Bedrock, the mob spawner-based farm is the easiest to build. Unlike complex designs requiring advanced redstone or intricate mechanics, a spawner farm uses a naturally generated dungeon spawner to produce a continuous stream of mobs that you can easily defeat for XP.

These spawners typically generate zombies, skeletons, or spiders and are located in underground dungeons scattered across the world. Once found, the spawner becomes the center of your XP farming system—offering a constant, reliable source of mobs for grinding.

STEP 1: Locate a Dungeon Spawner

Your first step is to find a mob spawner, usually located between Y=0 and Y=50 underground. Dungeons are small chambers made of cobblestone or mossy stone, clearly marked by a rotating mob cage in the center. To find one efficiently, explore deep caves, mineshafts, or ravines. Spawners may also appear in strongholds or abandoned mineshafts.

STEP 2: Gather the Required Materials

Before starting your XP farm, collect the following items:

Pickaxe: Iron or better, for mining and clearing stone.
Water Buckets: At least 2–4 to create water channels.
Building Blocks: Cobblestone, stone, or wood to construct the farm.
Signs or Slabs: To control water flow and guide mobs.
Torches: Crucial for lighting the area during construction.
Hoppers and Chests: Optional, for automating item collection.
Sword: Ideally enchanted with Looting III for increased drops.

How to Construct an XP Farm?

Follow these steps to build your farm:

Clearing and Preparing the Spawner Room – Begin by lighting the dungeon with torches around the spawner and walls to prevent unwanted mob spawns during construction. Expand the room to 9×9 blocks, ensuring the spawner is centered. Make the room 3 blocks high above the spawner and 2 blocks deep below floor level to optimize space for mob movement.

Creating Water Flow and Collection System – After clearing and resizing, dig 1-block deep trenches along the room’s edges and direct them toward a corner or central point. Place water buckets in the corners to form streams that push mobs into a funnel or chute.

At the funnel point, dig a drop chute about 22 blocks deep. This depth ensures mobs fall with minimal health remaining, making them easy to defeat with a single hit. At the chute’s base, build a small 3×3 killing chamber. Use slabs at head height to safely attack mobs without them reaching you.

Adding Collection Features – Place hoppers directly beneath the slabs where mobs land, connecting them to chests to automatically collect dropped items. This setup delivers XP while also gathering bones, arrows, or other mob-specific loot with no extra effort.

Activating and Farming XP – Once complete, remove all torches near the spawner to trigger mob spawning. Mobs will spawn, be pushed by water into the funnel, fall down the chute, and arrive in your kill chamber weakened and ready to be finished. Repeatedly defeating them grants XP rapidly. With a Looting III enchanted sword, you’ll get more drops, making the farm even more efficient.
