Nintendo Responds to CES 2025 Switch 2 Leaks: "Not Official"

Nintendo has issued a rare public statement regarding the recent flurry of Switch 2 leaks stemming from CES 2025. The company confirmed that the images circulating online are not official Nintendo materials, emphasizing their absence from this year's CES event. This brief comment, while seemingly obvious, marks an unusual departure from Nintendo's typically tight-lipped approach to leaks.

The Switch 2 has been the subject of numerous leaks since late 2024, a period coinciding with reports of the console entering mass production. One notable leak featured a Switch 2 replica displayed by accessory manufacturer Genki at CES 2025. Pictures of this replica quickly spread across social media.

Responding to an inquiry from the Sankei Shimbun, Nintendo directly addressed the Genki replica, stating unequivocally that the images and videos are "not official." The company further clarified its non-participation in CES 2025, thus ruling out any possibility of the leaked imagery being official promotional material.

Genki's Replica: Accurate or Not?

While Nintendo refrained from commenting on the accuracy of Genki's replica, the device's design aligns with previous leaks and rumors. The most significant visual difference from the original Switch is the inclusion of an additional button, resembling the Joy-Con capture button, located below the home button and labeled "C." Its function remains unknown.

Genki CEO Eddie Tsai offered additional purported details, suggesting magnetic attachment for the Joy-Cons instead of sliding rails, and hinting at potential mouse functionality for the controllers—claims consistent with earlier reports.

Nintendo's previous statements indicated a Switch 2 reveal within fiscal year 2024 (ending March 31, 2025). With approximately 80 days remaining, anticipation remains high. A retail launch is not expected before the second quarter of 2025, with a rumored price point around $399.
