طرنيب Tarneeb
Tarneeb, a popular card game known across Arab countries and especially in the Levant, is also referred to as "rule" in the Arab Gulf states. The essence of Tarneeb lies in winning consecutive rounds of play. The game is designed for four players, forming two teams of two players each, who compete against each other until the end of the rounds to declare the winner.
Tarneeb utilizes a standard 52-card deck, excluding jokers. The gameplay begins with the player to the left of the dealer making the first move. In each round, players aim to secure the highest bid, known as Tarneeb, starting from the player to the right of the dealer. Bidding starts at 7 and can go up to 13, also known as "Cabot" or "livers." The highest bidder selects the Tarneeb suit.
During the game, if a team fails to meet their bid, they face a penalty. For instance, if a team bids for 10 but only secures 9 tricks, the opposing team gains the points from the tricks they won, which in this example would be 4 points if they collected 4 tricks. If the opposing team secures 5 tricks, the bid failure becomes evident.
The game concludes when one of the teams reaches the predetermined score, either 61 or 31 points, agreed upon before the start of the game.
The card hierarchy in Tarneeb is as follows, from highest to lowest: Ace (referred to as "Cut"), King ("Sheikh"), Queen ("girl"), Jack ("born"), followed by 10 down to 2.
