The Kiwanis Club of New Kingston (KCNK) introduces the KCNK Little Bee Game, a fun and educational spelling app designed for children aged 4 to 9. Sponsored by Grace Kennedy Money Services (GKMS) and Western Union (WU), this app offers an engaging way for young learners to enhance their spelling skills across three distinct modes: Learning Mode 1, Learning Mode 2, and Competition Mode.
The KCNK Little Bee Game is perfect for on-the-go learning as it requires no internet connection. Each of the three modes features 10 progressive levels, with each level containing 15 or more words to master. Importantly, the words remain consistent across all modes within the same level, ensuring a cohesive learning experience.
In the Settings section, students can personalize their profiles by entering their name, age, parish, and school. They can then choose their preferred mode of play:
Learning Mode 1:
In this mode, students learn to spell words by tapping letters in sequence from left to right. The app audibly pronounces each letter, encouraging children to repeat aloud. Mistakes can be corrected by tapping the incorrect letter, and students can replay the word by clicking the little bee icon at the top left of the screen. To advance, students must spell each word correctly, completing all words to finish a level. They can revisit any level at any time, but must complete earlier levels before progressing.
Learning Mode 2:
Here, students are presented with jumbled letters and must correctly spell the prompted word. Similar to Learning Mode 1, they can correct errors and replay the word using the little bee icon. Success in spelling each word is required to move forward and complete a level, with the option to retry levels at any time, but only after completing preceding levels.
Competition Mode:
This mode challenges students with jumbled letters and additional distractors. They must spell the word correctly within a timed setting, with their performance tracked and added to their total time for the level. Each level features 10 randomly selected words. The goal is to complete levels as quickly as possible, with times displayed on the leaderboard on the main page. Students can reset the game from the Settings page and are encouraged to wait for the full pronunciation of a letter before selecting the next one. Both students and parents can capture screenshots of the leaderboard to share with teachers.
