Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom to Support Cloud Saves After All

Apr 26,25

Nintendo has confirmed that the Switch 2 version of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will indeed support cloud saves, putting to rest recent concerns among fans. Initially, a disclaimer on Nintendo's website for the Switch 2 edition of the game stated that it would not support the Nintendo Switch Online paid membership’s Save Data Cloud backup feature. This led to worries, as reported by IGN, that some games, or at least Tears of the Kingdom, might not include this functionality.

However, Nintendo has now updated the information on its website. While the page for Donkey Kong Bananza no longer mentions cloud saves at all, the disclaimer on the Tears of the Kingdom page has been revised to clarify: "Save data created in the second save data slot in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition cannot be transferred to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom on Nintendo Switch." This update suggests that players will be able to transfer their old Switch 1 saves to the new Switch 2 devices, but transferring Switch 2 saves back to the original system will not be possible, as noted by Eurogamer.

The same message has been added to the page for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, indicating a consistent approach to save data transfers across these enhanced versions of popular Switch titles.

In other news, pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 went live overnight, maintaining a price point of $449.99. As expected, the demand was high. For more details on securing your own, check out IGN's Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order guide.
