Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Now Streams Select Games on Consoles

May 20,25

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members have a new perk that's set to revolutionize their gaming experience: the ability to stream select games directly to their consoles without the need for downloads. This exciting feature was announced via an Xbox Wire news post, revealing that members can now enjoy streaming games from the Game Pass catalog, as well as certain games they already own, directly on their Xbox Series X, Series S, and Xbox One consoles through cloud streaming.

Previously, this innovative streaming capability was accessible on smart TVs, PCs, smartphones, and Meta Quest headsets, but this marks the first time it's available on Xbox consoles. This development not only saves time that would be spent downloading games but also conserves valuable hard drive space.

To get started with this feature on an Xbox console, follow these simple steps:

  • Go to My games & apps > Full library > Owned Games.
  • Cloud playable games will feature a cloud badge on their game pages. Utilize filters to streamline your search by selecting Filter > Ready to play > Cloud gaming.
  • To start playing, select the game and choose Play with Cloud Gaming. You can also begin streaming directly from the Store app after purchasing select cloud playable games.

Additionally, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members can stream any game installed on their Xbox consoles to devices with supported web browsers using this link. Note that this feature is no longer supported on the Xbox mobile app but remains accessible on mobile devices via the provided browser link. Xbox is also working on extending this feature to Samsung and Amazon Fire smart TVs, and Meta Quest headsets.

In another significant update, Xbox announced that starting this month, Xbox and Xbox 360 backward compatible games will also support remote play, enhancing the gaming flexibility for users even further.

Xbox's initiative with these streaming features aligns with their broader effort to optimize storage space on Xbox consoles. A new feature within the console's settings now offers recommendations for managing hard drive space more efficiently, accessible via the My Games & Apps > Manage menu.

In response to the increasing size of game installs, such as those seen in titles like Call of Duty and Baldur's Gate 3, Xbox has been actively working to expand storage options. For those needing even more space despite these enhancements, we've highlighted some of the best storage solutions for the Xbox Series X and S. These options are particularly useful if you're not ready to invest in the newer Xbox models, which boast increased built-in storage over the original versions.
