The Witcher 4: everything we know so far

Jan 09,25

The Witcher saga continues! Nearly a decade after the critically acclaimed Witcher 3, CD Projekt Red has unveiled the first trailer for The Witcher 4, starring Ciri as the protagonist.

Ciri, Geralt's adopted daughter, steps into the spotlight as the famed Witcher's trilogy concludes. The teaser showcases Ciri intervening in a village's disturbing ritualistic sacrifice, hinting at a complex narrative. The situation proves far more intricate than initially perceived.

A release date remains elusive. Considering the development timelines of Witcher 3 (3.5-4 years) and Cyberpunk 2077, and the early stage of Witcher 4's production, a 3-4 year wait is a reasonable expectation.

Platform specifics are yet to be announced, but given the projected timeframe, a current-generation console focus is likely. PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC releases are anticipated. While a Switch port was achieved for Witcher 3, it's less probable this time, though a potential Switch 2 release remains a possibility.

While gameplay details are scarce, the CGI trailer suggests familiar elements like potions, combat phrases, and Signs. A new addition might be Ciri's chain, used for both trapping monsters and channeling magic.

Voice actor Doug Cockle confirmed Geralt's presence, albeit in a supporting role, potentially acting as a mentor. The teaser includes Geralt's voice, fueling this speculation.
