Warframe: 1999 is getting a new prequel comic ahead of launch

You may remember a few weeks ago that I wrote up a lot about the Sea of Conquest comic that was being produced by Studio Ellipsis. As I observed then, it seemed an interesting project to support a piece of new media with something more traditional. And it seems I didn't have to wait long to see another studio take the same tack, as the upcoming expansion Warframe: 1999 has also received a prequel comic!

Available directly from the Warframe website, the comic will cover the origins of the six Protoframes forming the Hex Syndicate that serve as protagonists of the expansion. You'll find out more about the lives of these six misfits and the experiments they suffered at the hands of rogue scientist Albrecht Entrati, and how things connect to the wider Warframe universe, all gorgeously rendered by Warframe fan artist Karu.

But that's not all! Aside from this 33-page prequel comic, you can also grab the cover as a decoration for your landing pad. Free printable 3D miniatures of all the Protoframes are also being made available for players to build and paint.

Warframe: 1999, despite being technically an add-on, does seem to be a genuine next step in Warframe's development. I think it's also quite commendable to see the team at Digital Extremes engage a fan artist like Karu who's contributed to the vibrancy of Warframe's fanbase with their work and provided an avenue for their art to be shown to a wider audience.
