With Tokyo Game Show now behind us, new stories continue to emerge—mostly from Japanese-only releases that English-speaking audiences haven’t yet seen. One such example is Konami’s upcoming Wai Wai World Craft. It’s not a new Castlevania title, but it lets you craft your own experiences.

If that hasn’t made it clear yet, Wai Wai World Craft is a creation toolkit designed for building and sharing custom experiences. It draws clear comparisons to Roblox or the Unreal Editor for Fortnite, but what sets it apart is its deep Konami identity—inspired by the original Wai Wai World platformer, which famously united Konami’s beloved mascots from the 1980s.

For instance, the trailer features characters from both Castlevania and Contra, along with a few lesser-known faces. The goal appears to be letting players step into the role of designer, crafting unique experiences rooted in Konami’s legacy before sharing them with others.

Big hit or Pachinko support?

After several years of mixed reception, Konami seems to be staging a quiet resurgence. But I’m not convinced Wai Wai World Craft is exactly what fans are looking for—especially with so many other robust creation tools already available, like the Unreal Editor.

While it’s certainly enjoyable to pit your favorite Castlevania monsters and hunters against each other, what’s been shown so far lacks standout polish. It’s intriguing, yes—but when Wai Wai World Craft eventually launches globally, it’ll need a much stronger level of refinement to truly stand out.
