Pokémon TCG Market Movers: Weekly Price Surge and Decline Report

Aug 08,25

The Pokémon TCG collector market is evolving rapidly. Three X and Y era promo cards have seen remarkable value spikes, likely due to their striking designs. Historically, Venusaur EX, Blastoise EX, and Charizard EX box promos weren’t high-value cards. TCG Player data shows an abundance of lightly played and damaged cards, suggesting near-mint copies may justify their rising prices.

Last week’s market analysis highlighted sharp declines in Prismatic Evolutions chase cards, and trends have held. Glaceon ex and Sylveon ex have plummeted by 28% in just days, a significant shift. Here’s the breakdown:

Eevee ex SIR has fallen 36% since mid-April, coinciding with Prismatic Evolutions reprints hitting stores. Collectors’ reluctance to pay premium prices for Scarlet and Violet chase cards is driving widespread price drops.

Glaceon ex SIR, typically among the more affordable eeveelutions in Prismatic Evolutions, dropped 28% from $338.69 to $240.98. This seems like a stable range, though it could dip below $200 by year’s end.

Sylveon ex SIR, despite its popularity, dropped 28% from $562.60 to just under $400. Its intricate artwork and loyal fanbase suggest it may stabilize around $400.

Espeon ex SIR, surprisingly cheaper than Sylveon, is a standout. Many consider Espeon and Umbreon the top eeveelutions. With only a 5% drop, this card, hovering between $350 and $400 since its post-hype launch, is a solid addition for collectors.

Venusaur EX promo, a personal favorite from the X and Y era, features exceptional artwork tied to my first starter, Bulbasaur. Its value skyrocketed 263% in a week, with near-mint copies jumping from $49.53 to $180.
Blastoise EX promo follows suit, up 88% from $68.94 to $130, making it the most affordable of the trio.

Charizard EX Promo, unusually cheaper than Venusaur, climbed 183% from $45.58 to $129, a boon for grass-type fans. It’s still a strong performer among Kanto starters.

Shaymin EX, a staple in X and Y decks, leverages its Set Up ability with double colorless energies to draw six cards and deal 30 damage via Sky Return. Its value rose 44% in a week.

Togepi & Cleffa & Igglybuff GX from the Sun and Moon era’s Team Up set surged 41%, from $127.61 to $180, reflecting nostalgia for its unique gimmick.

TCG Player’s secondary market offers significantly lower prices than major retailers. Unless collectors secure preorders for sets like Destined Rivals, Black Bolt, or White Flare, this trend is likely to persist. While still above MSRP, smaller businesses on TCG Player consistently undercut large retailers, highlighting issues in the supply chain.
