Genki at CES 2025: A Closer Look at the Nintendo Switch 2 Mockup

Genki, renowned for its gaming accessories, showcased a 3D-printed Nintendo Switch 2 mockup at CES 2025, revealing intriguing details about Nintendo's next-generation console. Based on a black market acquisition, the mockup accurately reflects the Switch 2's dimensions, hinting at a design shift towards a larger form factor, closer in size to the Steam Deck.

Key features observed on the mockup include seemingly magnetic Joy-Cons, a second USB-C port, and an enigmatic "C" button. Genki CEO Eddie Tsai confirmed the magnetic Joy-Con design in an interview with The Verge, explaining that a button on each Joy-Con releases a pin, disengaging the magnetic connection. Despite the change from sliding rails, the Joy-Cons remain securely attached during gameplay.

Further details unveiled by Genki include optical sensors integrated into the Joy-Con mounting channels, suggesting potential functionality as a mouse via a yet-to-be-released accessory. This aligns with recently leaked images showing similar features.

While the Switch 2's dimensions are larger, it's surprisingly thin enough to fit within the existing Switch dock. However, design differences render it incompatible. The purpose of the additional USB-C port and the "C" button remains a mystery, even to Genki.
