Nintendo Switch 2 GameCube Controller Faces Compatibility Challenges
Nintendo has addressed concerns about the compatibility of its new GameCube controller, warning of potential issues when using it with modern Nintendo Switch 2 titles.
The GameCube controller was revealed during the 60-minute Nintendo Direct earlier this month. Initial fine print noted that the controller is "only compatible with Nintendo GameCube" titles in the Nintendo Switch Online retro library, not other Switch 2 games.
Nintendo has since clarified this restriction, emphasizing that the retro controller is primarily designed for GameCube games. While it may work with other Nintendo Switch 2 titles, users could encounter issues due to the controller lacking "all the buttons and features" of modern controllers.
Nintendo also reiterated that the GameCube controller is exclusively compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2 system.
"The Nintendo GameCube controller is tailored for the Nintendo GameCube – Nintendo Classics collection and serves as an optional way to enjoy those titles," Nintendo stated to Nintendo Life.
"As it lacks the full range of buttons and features found in other controllers compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2, issues may arise when playing other games. The Nintendo GameCube controller is only usable on Nintendo Switch 2 and not compatible with the original Nintendo Switch."
