Suikoden STAR LEAP Is The Franchise's First Mobile RPG

The forthcoming Suikoden mobile game, Suikoden STAR LEAP, is set to bring the immersive experience of a console game to mobile devices. In an insightful interview with Famitsu on March 4, 2025, the Star Leap developers shed light on their approach to this ambitious project.

Star Leap Producer Shinya Fujimatsu explained the rationale behind choosing mobile as the platform, stating, "We wanted to make Suikoden accessible to as many people as possible, and mobile is the most convenient hardware for that. At the same time, we are committed to ensuring that Star Leap embodies the true essence of Suikoden, which is why we're developing it as a numbered installment in the series."

The development team is dedicated to blending the high-quality visuals, sound, and storytelling typical of console games with the accessibility of mobile gaming, aiming to provide an exceptional gaming experience on smartphones.

Expressing Suikoden in STAR LEAP

Fujimatsu emphasized the unique elements of Suikoden, highlighting the series' focus on themes of war and friendship. He remarked, "In Suikoden STAR LEAP, it's crucial that we effectively convey the narrative of the new 108 stars, a hallmark of the Suikoden series."

Both a Sequel and a Prequel to the Series

Star Leap is designed to serve as both a sequel and a prequel to the Suikoden series, weaving through various eras within the game's narrative. As a new installment, it will be integrated into the official Suikoden timeline. The story begins two years before the events of Suikoden 1 and spans across different eras, enriching the series' lore.
