Minecraft Movie Song Enters UK Singles Chart

If you've recently seen A Minecraft Movie in theaters, you'll likely recall Jack Black's brief but catchy tune celebrating the lava chicken scene about midway through the film.

Playing the role of Steve, Black performs a track titled "Lava Chicken" as Jason Momoa and the rest of the cast watch a chicken get roasted by falling lava. Though it's only 34 seconds long, the song has quickly gone viral across social media.

Steve’s Lava Chicken has now entered the UK's official music chart at No. 21, setting a new record as the shortest track ever to make the list. "Streaming and online virality are redefining what makes a hit,” stated ERA, the UK's digital entertainment and retail association.

Black has a history with viral video game music. Bowser’s 95-second romantic ballad for Princess Peach in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, fittingly titled "Peaches" (which Black both performed and co-wrote), previously entered the Billboard Hot 100. This was his first solo career song to chart; earlier, in 2006, he had reached No. 78 as part of Tenacious D with the track "The Pick of Destiny".

Other relatively short songs that have also charted include the 2007 Simpsons Movie tune "Spider Pig" (64 seconds long) and Liam Lynch’s 2002 punk anthem "United States of Whatever" (86 seconds).

The lava chicken isn't the only viral element from A Minecraft Movie. Clips of overly enthusiastic fans in cinemas have spread rapidly on platforms like TikTok, with some attendees reportedly bringing live chickens to their screenings.

There’s even more buzz around A Minecraft Movie—including news that the film’s production team maintained a private Minecraft server where they played together. The movie has now officially passed $700 million in worldwide box office revenue and is on track to become the highest-grossing video game adaptation ever.
