Star Wars: KOTOR Remake Cancellation Rumors Surface

Jun 01,25

The highly anticipated project made its debut to the public in September 2021, but ever since, whispers and speculations have dominated the airwaves. Now, it appears that instead of the eagerly awaited launch, supporters might face disheartening news. This is according to Alex Smith — the former leader of Bend Studio and co-creator of the iconic Syphon Filter series.

Smith took to his X account to announce that the development of SW: KotOR Remake has been entirely suspended (notwithstanding Saber Interactive's statement in 2024 confirming active progress). He mentioned that some team members were transferred to different assignments, while others were let go. Should this turn out to be accurate, it would be a crushing setback for enthusiasts hoping for a refreshed version of the classic RPG.

It’s important to highlight that Smith has a history of providing credible insider details. For instance, he previously foreshadowed the unveiling of a new title from Housemarque, which indeed came to fruition. However, his forecasts for the release dates of Death Stranding 2 and Ghost of Tsushima were incorrect, so his claims should be approached with cautious optimism.

As of now, neither Saber Interactive nor Aspyr have issued any official statements regarding this matter, leaving devoted followers uncertain about the project's future.
