Top Spring 2025 Anime Recommendations

I’ve highlighted ***The Apothecary Diaries, Once Upon A Witch’s Death, The Beginning After The End, To Be Hero X***, and ***WITCH WATCH*** in my roundup of Spring 2025 anime dubs coming to Crunchyroll, but there are several other noteworthy picks from the list above that deserve your attention.

***Devil May Cry*** is the latest animated adaptation of a video game, available on Netflix. With a Limp Bizkit-soundtracked trailer and a newly composed Evanescence track, it's clear the creators understand the tone they need to hit for their target audience. Netflix has had mixed results with anime-style game IPs, ranging from successes like *Castlevania*, *Arcane*, and *Cyberpunk: Edgerunners* to less successful ventures like *Tekken: Bloodline* and *Dragon’s Dogma*. However, with Adi Shankar at the helm, who brought us *Castlevania* and the quirky *Guardians of Justice* and *Captain Laserhawk*, and animation by Studio Mir, known for *Avatar: The Last Airbender* and *Korra*, ***Devil May Cry*** promises to be a thrilling ride for fans of action-packed anime like *Trigun*.

***Moonrise***, premiering on Netflix, offers a unique premise where the moon fights for independence. Despite the limited information available, the talent behind this ONA is impressive, featuring animation from WIT Studio (*Attack On Titan, Vinland Saga*), original character designs by Hiromu Arakawa (*Fullmetal Alchemist*), and direction by Masashi Koizuka (*Attack On Titan* Seasons 2 & 3). This project's secrecy suggests a potentially groundbreaking story.

Lastly, ***YAIBA: Samurai Legends***, coming to Netflix, is a revival of the late 1980s manga by Gosho Aoyama, famous for *Case Closed*. This samurai comedy follows Yaiba Kurogane in his battle against an arch-nemesis armed with a magical katana and a demon army. With WIT Studio animating and Aoyama actively involved in production, this series blends the style of *Detective Conan* with the humor of early *Dragon Ball* and includes numerous Japanese historical cameos. It's a must-watch for fans of both genres.
