Sega took to Twitter (X) on April 9 to announce that Sonic Rumble will launch worldwide on May 8, 2025. Accompanying this exciting news was the release of a new trailer showcasing some thrilling gameplay footage.

Sonic Rumble marks the franchise's debut into the multiplayer party genre, allowing up to 32 players to compete across various levels and gameplay styles. Sega describes the game as follows: "Players control a character from the Sonic series as they navigate a toy world crafted by the nefarious Dr. Eggman, tackling challenging obstacle courses and perilous arenas!"

Given that Sonic Rumble is free-to-play, concerns about pay-to-win mechanics surfaced. However, Sonic Rumble Director Makoto Tase addressed these concerns in an interview with Automaton at the Tokyo Game Show 2024 in September 2024. He stated, "We’re aiming for a casual system that allows you to quickly purchase what you want for a small, fixed amount, steering clear of a gacha system that offers items based on probability."

Sonic Rumble Reaches Over 900k Pre-Registrations

Shortly after announcing the release date, Sega shared that Sonic Rumble has surpassed 900,000 pre-registrations. Each pre-registration milestone achieved unlocks special in-game rewards to help players kickstart their adventure:

• 200K Pre-Registered - x5000 Rings (in-game currency)
• 400K Pre-Registered - Happy Sticker
• 600K Pre-Registered - Crystal Chao Buddy
• 900K Pre-Registered - Garnet Knuckles Skin
• ??? Pre-Registered - Movie Sonic Skin

Currently, Sonic Rumble has not yet hit the final milestone of its pre-registration campaign. While the exact goal remains undisclosed, it is speculated to be around 1 million pre-registrations or more, based on similar campaigns by other games. With several weeks left until the game's launch, there's still plenty of time to reach this target.
