Rocksteady seeks GD for upcoming Batman

Feb 24,25

Rocksteady Studios is seeking a Game Director for its next major project, as announced in a Warner Bros. Discovery job posting on February 17th.

The successful applicant will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of game design, from core mechanics and progression systems to combat and mission structure. Experience in various genres, including third-person action, open-world adventures, and melee-focused combat, is highly desirable. This job description has fueled speculation about a potential return to the Batman franchise, the series that propelled Rocksteady to fame. The Batman: Arkham series closely aligns with the listed requirements, unlike Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, which emphasized ranged combat over close-quarters fighting.

As the hiring process is still in its early stages, the game is likely in the conceptual phase. Industry expert Jason Schreier suggests that, should Rocksteady develop a new single-player Batman title, it won't launch for several years.

Rocksteady's most recent release, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, launched on February 2nd, 2024, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam). The game received a mixed critical reception, scoring 63/100 on Metacritic and a 4.2/10 user rating.

Previous reports hinted at a possible Rocksteady Batman project, possibly inspired by the Batman Beyond animated series.
