$3,599.99 at Lenovo

The Lenovo Legion Pro 7i boasts a 16-inch 2560x1600 240Hz OLED display, powered by an Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX CPU and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 GPU. It also features 32GB of DDR5-6400MHz RAM and 2TB (2x1TB) of SSD storage. The Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX outshines its predecessor, the Core Ultra 9 185H, which was more focused on energy efficiency. Unlike the 185H, the 275HX is a true successor to the i9-14900HX, making it an excellent pairing with the RTX 5080 mobile GPU.

The Legion Pro 7i is equipped with the latest connectivity options, including WiFi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4, as well as USB Type-C with up to 140W Power Delivery, Thunderbolt 4 with DisplayPort 2.1 (40Gbps), and a USB Type-A port with USB 3.2 Gen 2 specifications. It also retains the increasingly rare RJ45 ethernet port and includes a privacy shutter for the webcam. The laptop's chassis, crafted from aluminum and magnesium, ensures durability and a premium feel.

We've Reviewed an RTX 5080 Equipped Gaming Laptop

Although we haven't tested Lenovo's latest Legion laptop yet, we have experience with another gaming laptop featuring the RTX 5080 GPU. The RTX 5080 offers a marginal improvement over the RTX 4080 in traditional rasterized performance but excels significantly when games leverage DLSS 4.0 with multi-frame generation technology. The Gigabyte Aorus Master, equipped with an RTX 5080 at a 150W TGP and a 2560x1600 display, mirrors the Lenovo Legion Pro 7i in key specs, suggesting similar gaming performance.

Gigabyte Aorus Master 16" RTX 5080 Laptop Review by Chris Coke

"Nvidia's 50-series GPUs emphasize AI capabilities over pure native rendering performance. While the RTX 5080's performance is only slightly better than the RTX 4080, this gap widens with games that support multi-frame generation. Although 'fake frames' are often mocked, they can significantly boost performance when implemented well. The impact varies by game; for instance, Alan Wake 2 may experience more latency at higher settings, whereas Cyberpunk 2077 does not. As more games integrate technologies like neural shaders, investing in these future technologies might be wise, though it relies on Nvidia and game developers to support these features in upcoming titles."
