The Pokémon GO Tour Pass: A Free and Paid Option Explained

Many Pokémon GO players are curious about the new Tour Pass, especially its cost. The good news? The basic Tour Pass is free! Let's break down what it offers and how it compares to the paid Deluxe version.

What is the Pokémon GO Tour Pass?

Introduced with the Pokémon GO Tour: Unova global event, the Tour Pass is a system for earning rewards. Players complete tasks to earn Tour Points, which unlock rewards, boost rank, and enhance event bonuses. The free Tour Pass is automatically granted to all players at the event's start (February 24th, 10 AM local time).

A paid "Tour Pass Deluxe" option is also available for $14.99 USD (or local equivalent). This provides an immediate Victini encounter, improved rewards, and faster progression through the Tour Pass tiers.

Earning Tour Points and Rewards

Tour Points are earned by completing in-game activities like catching Pokémon, raiding, and hatching eggs, plus daily Pass Tasks. These points unlock various rewards, including Pokémon encounters, Candy, Poké Balls, and more. Higher ranks also increase the Catch XP bonus during the event:

  • Tier 2: 1.5x Catch XP
  • Tier 3: 2x Catch XP
  • Tier 4: 3x Catch XP

Niantic has yet to reveal all rewards, promising further details. The free Pass's top tier offers a Zorua encounter with a special background.

The Lucky Trinket: A Deluxe Reward

The Tour Pass Deluxe's ultimate reward is the Lucky Trinket – a single-use item transforming a friend (at least Great Friends level) into a Lucky Friend, enabling a Lucky Pokémon trade without needing Best Friend status. These trinkets expire on March 9th, 2025.

Pokémon GO is available now.
